SBS: Don’t screen Eurovision 2019 if it is held in Israel – #BoycottEurovision2019

Please sign the petition

We love SBS and we love Eurovision, but:

Is a song contest more important than human rights?

Are advertising dollars worth more than international law?

Palestinian musicians and artists have launched a campaign to boycott Eurovision 2019 in Israel, because Eurovision should not be used to whitewash the Israeli government’s brutal and illegal occupation and apartheid policies inflicted on Palestinian people every day.

We are calling on SBS’s board of directors and CEO not to broadcast Eurovision 2019 if it is held in Israel, as is planned.

We know – like the campaign to end apartheid in South Africa in the 1980s – our international solidarity is playing a vital role in helping Palestinians see they are not alone.

The Petition:

Dear SBS Board of Directors,

Re: Screening Eurovision 2019 if it is in Israel.

We, the undersigned, given Israel’s ongoing oppression of Palestinians and the theft of their lands and the discrimination they face inside Israel, call on SBS not to broadcast Eurovision 2019 if it is held in Israel, as is planned.

Between March and June 2018 more than 130 people were killed in Gaza by Israeli snipers, with fifteen thousand people injured. Their ‘crime’ was demonstrating for their legal right to return to their homeland and for an end to the illegal blockade of Gaza.

We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian musicians and artists who have launched a campaign to boycott Eurovision 2019. Eurovision should not be used to ‘artwash’ the Israeli government’s apartheid policies and the violence inflicted on Palestinian people. Eurovision’s good reputation will be forever tarnished by its association with the Israeli government.

Like the campaign to end apartheid in South Africa in the 1980s international solidarity is needed with Palestinians’ struggle for equality, peace and justice. We ask that SBS recognise this and be on the right side of history.

We will be asking others to join us in calling on you to do the right thing for Palestinians whose human rights are violated every day.

We love SBS and we love Eurovision, but we ask you:
Is a song contest more important than human rights?
Are advertising dollars worth more than international law?
