In happier news, Phil Glendenning, President of the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), has been made a member of the Order of Australia, in recognition of his incredible advocacy on human rights issues.
Phil used the opportunity to call for justice for people in Australia’s offshore detention camps:
“If you look at people languishing on Nauru and Manus at the moment who really have committed no crime, [they] need to be brought to safety and security as soon as possible… and that needs to happen in the next few days, let alone months. There’s work that we need to do… that remains unfinished and receiving an award like this gives an opportunity to highlight that it’s not done yet.
