La vera guerra globale
Nella sua relazione del 18 luglio scorso, il primo ministro australiano Malcolm Turnbull, mentre annunciava e giustificava la creazione di un superministero dell’Interno per la lotta al terrorismo, ha rivelato un dato interessante sulla riunione del G20 del 7-8 luglio ad Amburgo. In quell’incontro, per i rappresentanti dei paesi più industrializzati, la questione terrorismo ha messo in ombra le solite discussioni sui temi economici.
La cosa non sorprende, è solo il sintomo dell’assenza della capacità/volontà da parte dei governi di intervenire sull’altra guerra non dichiarata, quella fra paesi “amici” per conquistare i mercati e scaricare sugli altri i costi sociali e ambientali di un’economia globale che procede incurante delle crescenti diseguaglianze, rese ancora più profonde dallo smantellamento e dalla svendita delle imprese di stato e delle strutture pubbliche.
Tutti vogliono aumentare la propria produttività e vendere i loro prodotti agli altri. I paesi di vecchia industrializzazione sono assediati dai cosidetti paesi emergenti e si presentano come vittime, pur avendo usufruito per secoli, e continuando ad usufruire, dello sfruttamento dei paesi più deboli.
La guerra contro il terrorismo sarà utile fino a un certo punto per evitare di affrontare le conseguenze della guerra spietata per il mercato globale , che in fondo è alle base delle attuali problematiche sociali, economiche e ambientali.

The real global war
In announcing and justifying on 18 July the creation of a super-ministry of Home Affairs to fight terrorism, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull revealed an interesting piece of information on the G20 meeting of 7-8 July in Hamburg. He said that at the meeting of representatives of the most industrialized countries the terrorism issue overshadowed the usual discussions on economic issues. This is not surprising and demonstrates the lack of governments’ ability and willingness to intervene on the other undeclared war – the one between “friends”. Each of those countries is out to win in trade wars that offload on others the social and environmental costs of a global economy careless of the growing inequalities, made even deeper by the dismantling and sale of state-owned enterprises and public facilities. Everyone wants to increase their productivity and sell their products to others. Established industrialised countries are besieged by the so-called emerging economies and consider themselves victims, even though they have benefited for centuries, and continue to benefit, from the exploitation of, what was once referred to as, the Third World. The war on terrorism will have limited use in avoiding tackling the consequences of the ruthless war for global markets, which is at the core of current social, economic and environmental issues.
