IL TERRORE QUOTIDIANO
La strategia di seminare il terrore (uno stato di paura incontrollabile per un pericolo imminente ma non necessariamente reale) nell’elettorato da parte dei governanti è forse la più chiara dimostrazione dei limiti della politica oggi.
Il fatto che si limita la libertà per difendere la libertà indica la disfunzione democratica nei confronti di acuti e crescenti problemi sociali ed ambientale.
L’esigenza di un’altro sistema economico viene sepolto dall’ideologia (la logica di una idea) del terrore che crea un conveniente alibi per non migliorare le prospettive dei cittadini.
Per esempio, non è accettabile che, secondo un parere del Fondo monetario internazionale, alla Spagna ci vorrano quasi 10 anni e all’Italia e Portogallo quasi 20 anni per ridurre il tasso di disoccupazione ai livelli pre-crisi, senza una significativa accellerazione della crescita.
Questo sarà una condanna al terrore quotidiano della povertà di milioni di persone – un terrore vero e molto più pernicioso e penetrante di qualunque terrore islamico.
Ormai il ner-vo-si-smo del capi-tale globale è tale che siamo all’attribuzione di respon-sa-bi-lità ai poveri e ai disoc-cu-pati della pro-pria con-di-zione, per scarsa com-pe-ti–vità che ci vuole tutti impren-di-tori, inno-va-tori, self made man.
E’ opportuno riportare le parole dello storico, economista, filosofo e intellettuale pubblico australiano, Hugh Stretton, scomparso in questi giorni, she diceva che un’economia cattiva crea miseria e distruzzione quanto una guerra. Ed è anche per quello che l’economia deve tornare ad essere servo e no maestro dei popoli.
THE DAILY TERROR
The strategy of terror (a state of uncontrollable fear of imminent danger but not necessarily real) spread in the electorate by governments is perhaps the clearest demonstration of the limits of politics today.
A sign of the democratic dysfunction, in the face of acute and increasing social and environmental problems, is the increasing restrictions on freedom to purportedly defend freedom.
The need for another economic system is buried by a terror ideology (the logic of an idea) that creates a convenient excuse for not improving citizens’ prospects.
For example, it is not acceptable that, according to the International Monetary Fund, to reduce the unemployment rate to pre-crisis levels Spain will take nearly 10 years while Italy and Portugal will take almost 20 years, unless there is significant accelerated growth.
This condemns millions of people to the daily terror from poverty – which is much more pernicious and pervasive than any Islamic terror.
But, the nervousness of global capital is such that it blames the poor and unemployed for the situation who are accused of lacking the competitiveness that expects everyone to be entrepreneurs, innovators and self-made.
It pays to remember the words of the Australian historian, economist, philosopher and public intellectual, Hugh Stretton, who died recently, who said that a bad economy creates misery and destruction as much as a war. It is for this also that the economy needs to return to being the servant and not the master of the people.
